Moving Forward
On October 10, 2007 from 5:00-6:30 at the Women & Family Life Center, 96 Fair Street, Guilford, CT, the newly formed community initiative, TEAM Guilford — Better Life in Guilford, will hold a reception to announce its formation and mission to the public. All members of the community are invited to attend this free event.
TEAM Guilford was initiated 18 months ago by a group of concerned constituents, including Guilford’s town leadership, the Guilford Public Schools, the Guilford Foundation, the Women and Family Life Center, and others, to clarify critical issues, identify core community values, and mobilize the community to action.
The group has gathered statistical data indicating that, despite Guilford’s relatively high median income and educational level, the community faces many of the same problems as other towns and cities. Data to be presented at the Kick-Off provides insights into potential issues such as health, mental illness, substance abuse, housing and lonely seniors, and also illuminates strengths that the community can draw from to tackle critical issues.
Over the next eight months, TEAM Guilford will hold a series of Community Conversations with individuals, organizations and constituencies that make up the community. Citizens of all ages and facets of the community – young people, seniors, residents from North Guilford and from the shoreline, members of civic organizations, sports clubs and arts organizations – will come together to determine the core values that are important to the community, identify critical issues, and then mobilize to build on strengths and take action to address the needs.
The culminating event will be a Community Forum to be held in April, 2008.
This initiative is being funded, in part, by the Guilford Foundation, and is also supported by the First Congregational Church, the Women & Family Life Center, Guilford Public Schools, the Town of Guilford, the Shoreline Times, the Chamber of Commerce, and Guilford Youth and Family Services.
